Integrating cultures and interests
Culture Ministers of CELAC member countries will meet in Havana in order to draw up a Culture Action Plan through 2017.
August 18-19, for the first time, Havana will host the 3rd Meeting of CELAC Culture Ministers; one of the most important events on the region’s cultural agenda.
The main aim of the event will be to draw up a Culture Action Plan through 2017 which will work toward realizing the goals expressed in collective statements of CELAC heads of state and government, as well as review initiatives undertaken to date.
In preparation for this meeting, event coordinators noted that intense work has been carried out with representatives of the government of Ecuador, current president pro tempore of the bloc.
In an interview with Granma, the country’s ambassador in Cuba, Edgar Ponce, stated that the holding of the encounter on the island represents recognition of Cuba’s achievements in the cultural sphere, adding that during the event the nation will report on the implementation of several initiatives.
Topics to be discussed during the meeting include cultural industries, creative economy and innovation: social and cultural development; defense and conservation of cultural heritage; and diversity of cultural, artistic and creative expressions.
Thirty-two delegations are programmed to participate in the event while parallel activities such as bilateral encounters between authorities from different countries, and the signing of collaboration agreements are also scheduled to take place.
