Pope Francis Arrives At UN To Speak to the General Assembly
Pope Francis arrived in the UN headquarters in Manhattan, New York, where he will speak before the plenary of the General Assembly, a forum which brings together the 193 member states of the organization.
The Pope arrived at the facility, located on First Avenue, in a closed car in the middle of an impressive security deployment, described by local media as the biggest in US history.
Francis was received by the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, and inside the building they held a brief dialogue.
It is expected that the Bishop of Rome will address in the Assembly major concerns of the international community, such as climate change, the crisis of migrants trying to reach Europe and the wars that plague millions of people worldwide.
This is the fifth visit of a pope to the UN, with the peculiarity that for the first time was hoisted the flag of the Vatican here,with the two Palestine, the two observers non-member states of the organization.
Hundreds of journalists, cameramen and photographers joined long lines to enter the United Nations headquarters, which after Your Holinees speech will host for three days the Summit designed to set the Post-2015 Sustainable Development agenda, with the presence of more than 150 leaders.
