Fidel Castro stresses need to defend peace in the WorldCuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro said that the upmost duty of all human beings is fighting for peace, in an article published on Granma newspaper on Monday.

Fidel recalls that nearly all religions have regretted the destruction and terrible consequences of wars and in this regards he stresses the significance of the recent meeting in Havana of Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill, which has brought hope to all the nations of the world.

The Cuban leader once again recalls that thousands of nuclear weapons are still threatening humanity and thus, preventing the most brutal war that can ever occur has undoubtedly been the main objective of religious leaders like Pope Francis and His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia.

Fighting for peace is the most sacred duty of all human beings, disregarding what religion they profess of the country where they are from, the color of their skin, their adult or young age, wrote Fidel Castro in his article.

The article follows the historic meeting of the two religious leaders, and his meeting with Kirill, who paid an official visit to Cuba.
