Cuba Urges for International Cooperation Without Undue Restrictions
Cuba stressed at Geneva that the implementation of international cooperation should be carried out without undue restrictions or unilateral measures, as the blockade imposed by the United States against the island.
During the meeting of the Preparatory Committee of the 8th Review Conference of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons, Cuba called for lifting the restrictions on the free exchange of equipment, materials and scientific and technological information for the peaceful use of biological agents and toxins, diplomatic sources informed today.
The Cuban delegate Claudia Perez expressed concern about the existence of certain export and transfer controls applied by developed countries, which affect the countries of the South.
In that regard, Claudia Perez urged to find a multilaterally negotiated solution on the basis of the fundamental principle of non-discrimination and inclusiveness in the implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of Biological Weapons.
The 8th Review Conference of the Convention will be held from November 7 to 25 in this Swiss city, and is expected a large participation of the States parties, according to a statement released by the Permanent Mission of Cuba.
