Cuban Lawmakers Pay Tribute to Outstanding Revolutionary

Gallego Fernandez, as he was popularly known, was a member of the People’s Power National Assembly since 1976, Parliament Speaker Esteban Lazo said.

Before the lawmakers observed a minute’s silence at Havana’s Convention Center, Lazo underlined that Fernandez was one of the most beloved leaders of the revolutionary process.

After his death, the second secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, noted that ‘Gallego Fernandez was an unconditional combatant and an exceptional human being.’

A man of action, conviction and revolutionary awareness, Machado Ventura underlined after participating, along with President Miguel Diaz-Canel, in a guard of honor at the Veterans’ Pantheon in Havana’s Colon Cemetery.

Fernandez’s life and work is known by the people of Cuba, where his contributions to the educational system and sports were outstanding, so he is remember with love and respect by athletes and professors, he pointed out.

Those who paid their last respects to Fernandez agreed that the Reserve Division General was deeply in love with the Revolution and was a loyal friend of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, and the first secretary of the Communist Party, Raul Castro.
